Overview of f22 Photography Workshops
f22 photography workshops were introduced by Neil Atkinson so that he could pass on his working knowledge of photography. Neil's passion for the visual arts is matched by his obsessive interest in the unique rural landscape of the British Isles. The photography workshops offer you the chance to visit some truly idyllic outdoor locations. You will learn new skills that will help improve your photographic technique and become a more accomplished photographer. The courses are very informative, so you will gain a lot of technical knowledge but in easy to understand, jargon-free language. Our workshops are also a lot of fun and a great way to meet like-minded people with a common interest in digital photography.
What you will learn
As well as gaining some great practical experience out shooting on location you will also have the opportunity to ask as many technical questions as you like throughout the day. Neil will then give an informal presentation on improving photographic technique, key points will include the following:
- Composition, specifically the 'rule of thirds'
- Camera and lens combinations
- Camera modes and settings - the drawbacks of using full auto mode and the benefits of changing your camera mode to manual and/or AV priority
- Aperture versus shutter speed - the benefits of using a small aperture (f22) for landscape work
- RAW versus JPG format - We'll address the benefits of shooting RAW files as opposed to JPG's
- ISO - what it is and which ISO should you choose
- Useful accessories such as tripods, shutter releases and filters can hugely improve your chances of taking better photographs - we'll discuss these in detail
- Metering - how to meter and correctly expose difficult scenes within your viewfinder. "How do I expose for a bright sky and a darker foreground at the same time?" This is one of the many pitfalls a landscape photographer faces - We will show you how to achieve a balanced exposure when dealing with extreme areas of shadow and brightness
With the presentation and discussion complete we will head off into the great outdoors and begin to photograph the landscape. Group workshops are limited to five people per session, this enables Neil to give a concise group presentation as well as spending quality time with individuals when out on location. For people who would like to book a one-to-one session, this can also be arranged, please contact Neil for availability.
